Now that I am back to Newfoundland and back to my regular life with work and kids it is nice to have a chance to reflect and write about my experience at The Shopping Channel and to share it all with the followers of The Shopping Channel Blog and Facebook page. My visit to The Shopping Channel was definitely one of the more memorable experiences of my life. Other than perhaps my wedding day, I have never felt more like a princess, or a celebrity!

From the moment I walked in the door I felt like I was at home. Everyone knew my name and was so excited for me. The people at The Shopping Channel are among the friendliest bunch I’ve ever met. The greeting at the door was amazing …. very unexpected. I spent that first afternoon trying on the Brian Bailey fashions that I would be modelling the next day, and meeting just about everyone in the building! Then we were treated to a wonderful meal at The Keg, followed by a relaxing evening at the hotel getting prepared for the next day.

To say that the day of the show was a whirlwind is an understatement. I was so nervous going on air but the Carol, Sandy Savelli and Brian Bailey were amazing. They were so funny and had me giggling the whole time before we went on air which totally relaxed me, thank goodness!

Then it was off for hair and make-up at Donato’s Salon where they made me look like movie star. The rest of the day was a blur of excitement and fun. The lovely ladies who model the clothes every day were also a great bunch to work with. They welcomed me into the dressing room and into their working space just like I’d been there all along. They taught me how walk and turn and shared their mother’s fudge! Thank you all so much….I had such a great time.

And Brian Bailey deserves a paragraph all to himself. He was wonderful! He’s just as silly off camera as he is on. He completely absorbed any nervousness I had about being in front of the camera. I absolutely loved working with Brian and his clothes are amazing quality and fit. Brian, if you ever do a show over here on the East Coast look me up!!!!
Thank you to everyone at The Shopping Channel who made the Model for a Day contest such a fantastic experience for me. I will never forget it. And to anyone out there who was thinking of applying for the contest, or will consider it next year, you should definitely go for it…..it’s a blast!

Have the Wolfgang Puck Rice Cooker? Below is Kristin’s recipe so you can try this prize dish at home.

Creamy Pumpkin Rotini with Turkey Sausage & White Beans

Ingredients:

• 3 cups dried rotini pasta
• 3.5 cups chicken stock
• 1 can evaporated milk (385 mL)
• 1 can pure pumpkin (14 oz.)
• 1 can white kidney beans (19 oz.), rinsed well and drained
• 1/2 tsp. crushed garlic
• 2 tbsp. butter
• 1/2 tsp. each sea salt and pepper
• 3/4 lb. cooked turkey sausage, chopped into bite-size pieces
• 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
• 1 tbsp. chopped fresh sage

Directions:

1) Add pasta, chicken stock, evaporated milk, pumpkin, beans, garlic, butter, salt and pepper, and turkey sausage to the Wolfgang Puck Rice Cooker and stir together. Close lid and press COOK.

2) Combine parmesan cheese and sage in a small bowl and set aside.

3) When rice cooker switches to KEEP WARM, about 25 minutes, open lid and give mixture a good stir. Add parmesan cheese and sage, give another good stir to combine, close lid and press COOK again.

4) When rice cooker switches to KEEP WARM again, about 5 minutes, give another good stir (mixture should be very bubbly) and let stand with lid open about 5 minutes to stop boiling and allow mixture to thicken. Serve immediately with extra parmesan and parsley, if desired.
