I took a swing at this year’s Trenton Cold Storage Annual Golf Tournament for the Alzheimer’s Society held at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Brighton, Ontario.

Do you know what’s worse than golfing in the rain? Not knowing how to golf and being in the rain all day long!  

Despite my limited golf talent, I just had to get involved. My friend Mix97 morning show host Sean Kelly invited me to take part. Hopefully my swing will improve for next year, so I will get invited back!  I did get the hang of it with the help of my golf partner, former NHLer Shawn Antoski. He is known for his swinging of his hands in the NHL (watch this video - yikes!) but this guy was a big pussycat to be paired up with all day.

“Anton” (one of his nicknames, the other is Moose due to the size of his legs - which made mine seem VERY VERY TINY!) was alot of fun to be with. There were a few moments when I thought our golf cart was going to roll, but I never worried … he’s big and I think he would have cushioned my fall (teehee)!

Shawn and I were auctioned off to golf with and the winners for the day were Ron and Brad who run the new Holiday Inn Express in Belleville. The Shopping Channel graciously donated a prize basket piled full with David Babaii, Diamonelle and Elizabeth Grant to give to my golf duo. It felt more like an apology for my poor golf skills, rather than a prize! Well, at least I was my humorous self and highly entertaining through the whole ordeal!

I even got to touch base with a former classmate, former NHLer Brent Gretzky at the dinner (yes, Wayne’s brother.) He is still a sweet guy, just like in highschool and married his girlfriend from highschool too!

Although the weather was wet, the golfing was good, laughs all around and lots of money was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society. It feels good to do good!
