Dining & dishing with the incredible Joan Rivers

I was lucky enough to be on the invite list to a very special luncheon this past weekend. Suzin Ferris was the succesful bidder in our once-in-a-lifetime experience auction in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Because of her generousity, she secured the incredible experience of lunch with the very fabulous Joan Rivers.
Along with her friend, Joyce Rosen, myself, and a few other lucky folks at The Shopping Channel, we met Joan at a suite at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel for a lovely catered lunch. This venue enabled Joan and her guests to have private time without being interrupted by Joan’s many fans in a restaurant. As expected, Joan was gracious and funny. When she walked into the suite, she handed both Suzin and Joyce a bag loaded with Joan Rivers jewellery. Joan autographed 4 or 5 pictures with funny comments to each of Suzin’s friends.
It was a beautiful relaxed setting … we stood and drank and chatted, then sat at a dining room table with Joan at the head and her guests on either side. After lunch, Joan kissed them each goodbye as she had a show to do at The Shopping Channel in the afternoon.
After lunch, we returned with the guests to give them a tour of the studio when Joan called them on air and personally thanked them for their donation and wished them all the best.
Joan made them feel like a million bucks and they shared many laughs throughout the day. And as Joan said goodbye to them, she said with complete genuineness “today I’ve made a new friend”. It was a lovely time.
